![]() Referencial jokes on Monkey Island tend to be about politics, systems, or comercialism. ![]() I think the main problem is it´s just the wrong type of humor on the series. ![]() I think it's kind of refreshing to have a match puzzle that actually requires some engagement instead of being easily brute forced or cheated with a guide. Monkey Kombat definitely isn't a funny gag, and it gets drawn out a bit too long, but it actually presents a legitimate puzzle for you to work out. After the initial charm of it wore, off, it just became a slog of losing encounters until you found the two pre-assigned phrases. I like insult sword fighting, but it was definitely getting stale by the time it reappeared in Curse. everything else is repetitivity and frustration. ![]() In Monkey Kombat, the only thing in common with Insult Swordfighting is the matching mechanism. And there's an advantage: matches are based on the answer logic. It forces you to fight again and again, but, every time you retry, a new insult, different from others, is added.
